Over the last 10 years, there has been some incredible advancements in the world of football (soccer) balls. Adidas seems to have led the charge with this design and technology, in producing balls constructed to be perfectly round and offer maximum flight. What makes this latest ball unique is not only the incredible design—it is the fact that it has gone old-school with its visual presentation. Instead of this ball looking futuristic to the football fan watching on television, it looks like the soccer balls that I grew up with in the 70′s. Adidas is doing something rather brilliant with this ball by tugging at the heart strings, and fielding a ball that conforms to that universal image of what a soccer ball should look like. It is a common look for a soccer ball—especially when looking at this one from a distance—but the underlying design is quite advanced and ahead of its time. This is a brilliant execution of design on many levels.
